Investigation into YouTube clips insulting Indians
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is investigating two offensive video clips on YouTube that insult the Indian community.
Putera MIC submitted a memorandum to the commission’s content regulation department director Eneng Faridah Iskandar on Friday, requesting action against those responsible for the clips.
“She has promised to investigate and take the necessary action,” Putera MIC coordinator P. Kamalanathan told reporters.
He said the clips were discovered on Monday by a Putera MIC team of cyber-troopers who have been actively surfing the Internet the past few months.
Kamalanathan, who is also party information chief, also said a report on the matter was lodged at the Sentul police station on Wednesday.
The clips were uploaded in December 2008 and September last year.
The first clip features scenes from a Tamil movie and the second one contains visuals of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) demonstration in Batu Caves on Nov 25, 2008.
Both clips have Bahasa Malaysia voice-overs.
Meanwhile, Selangor Umno Youth chief Suhaimi Mohd Ghazali said those who had uploaded the video clips were highly irresponsible.
He said they should consider the damage their actions could create.
Umno Youth exco member Lokman Adam said the clips were contrary to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s 1Malaysia philosophy.
He urged the authorities to immediately investigate and institute the necessary action.
Shah Alam Umno Youth chief Azahari Shaari said those behind the clips were aiming to create trouble among the races.
Selangor MCA vice-chairman Wong Koon Mun said the authorities must track down the culprits, charge them in court and ensure no one dared do such things in the future.
